Press Release
Basseterre, St. Kitts June 11, 2014, (PAMCOM):- Fatherhood is in the spotlight this Sunday June 15th when the East Basseterre Branch of the People’s Action Movement pays tribute in the usual grand style with another Father’s Day luncheon hosted by Candidate Ian “Patches” Liburd and the East Basseterre Group.
According to organizers of this Sunday’s annual luncheon hosted at Marshall’s restaurant in Frigate Bay, the event is expected to begin at 12 noon, kicking off an afternoon packed with good food, music, laughter, and relaxation for all.
Father’s Day, celebrated first on June 19, 1910, and attributed to the efforts of one Sonora Louise Smart Dodd, of Spokane, Washington in the United States has seen many changes in the way it is celebrated. However, the basic purpose of the observance still remains intact, that is to pay tribute to the male figure in our lives whose selfless love, care and sacrifice makes us what we are.
We are all familiar with the fifth commandment -the first with a promise-, that tells us in short to “Honour thy Father and Mother….,” however, many argue that fathers somehow are short changed when we consider our actions throughout the year. The East Basseterre branch believes that this annual event on the third Sunday of June, in some small way helps us give some honour, and celebrate fathers and fatherhood in general, including father figures such as guardians, uncles, and grandfathers, it is a time set aside to value the father’s role in our lives and to reflect upon paternal bonding.
The East Basseterre branch of the People’s Action Movement salutes all fathers, as they sacrifice for their family in so many ways, yet the group hastens to encourage Dads to give their most valuable asset to Children as much as possible, your time. There is a saying that “time is of the essence”, if true, then the time spent interacting with Kids must be invaluable to their overall development.
The Special Guest Speaker for this year’s event is slated to be Mr Mervin Hanley the fiery Press Secretary in the Nevis Island Administration. Over the years the event has featured a number of notable speakers including former Minister in the Nevis Island Administration the Hon. Carlisle Powell , Canada Based Banker and Social Activist Sheldon Pemberton among others.
The organizers of this event extend an invitation to all to be a part of this fitting tribute to Dads across our country. They encourage you to contact them at 764-5295 or 662-5295 and make it an afternoon for the entire family to express love and appreciation for the male figure in your life that has taken on the role of Dad. Happy Father’s Day to all fathers, thank you for being the best Dad you can possibly be. In a world that so often promotes “can’t”, thanks for saying “yes we can!”
