The Sugar Boyz’s historic participation in the Concacaf Gold Cup will motivate other young St. Kitts and Nevis football players to aspire to greatness. So explains coach Austin “Dico” Huggins recently as the team is currently participating in the Gold Cup tournament in the US. The Sugar Boyz created history by qualifying for the Gold Cup for the very first time in the history of St. Kitts and Nevis football, defeating Curacao and French Guiana to gain the spot.
“St. Kitts and Nevis are very proud to be here. This is also a magnificent chance for St. Kitts and Nevis football, in general, the younger (generation) behind to see what they can achieve. We are always impressing upon these guys that they should be good role models for the guys coming behind. So, this tournament should be a very good measuring stick also for our players at home…to be motivated and want to be here in this position. They have something to look forward to…. our future is looking bright,” he said.
Despite being eliminated from the tournament having lost to the US on Wednesday and Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday; nothing compares to the experience and significance of qualifying for the tournament. St. Kitts and Nevis next play Jamaica on Sunday in Santa Clara.
