Four lucky nationals awarded scholarships from TDC

(BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS) – Four prospective college students from the Federation of St. Kitts- Nevis have been added to the TDC Group of Companies scholarship awardees by receiving the Michael L. King Honorary Scholarship Grant for 2013.

The lucky students who would all pursuing undergraduate studies were awarded at a brief ceremony held on Friday, July 19, 2013 at the TDC Training Room, Fort Street, Basseterre. They were all presented with the sum of US$ 5,000.00 which is expected to go towards their academic studies.

The awardees for 2013 are:
Jacqueline Bryan of St. Kitts, who would pursue studies in International Relations/Political Science at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica;
Josh Kelly of St.Kitts, who would study Economics at the University of the West Indies in Barbados;
Venelle Powell of Nevis who would pursue Pharmacology at the University of Technology in Jamaica; and
Shelisia Glasford of Nevis, who would pursue studies in the Tourism/Hospitality field at the Cesar Ritz College in Switzerland

Opening remarks were made by Mr. Dennis A. Knight, TDC Human Resources Manager who gave a brief outline of the achievements of the TDC Group of Companies. He also used the opportunity to congratulate the awardees.

Chairman of the Michael L. King Scholarship Committee Dr. Clive Ottley gave an overview of the grant and the criteria that one must meet in order to qualify.

The Scholarship is intended to assist students desirous of pursuing university studies at the Undergraduate and Post Graduate levels in areas including: Business Management, Economics, Information Technology, Accounting, Architecture, Agriculture, Engineering and Pharmacology.

Past awardee, Vanessa Kelly-Bowry gave congratulatory remarks and words of encouragement.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Lonie Liburd- Willet in her words of encouragement told the awardees to stay focused, work hard and make the country proud.

Also addressing the honorees and other specially invited guests was TDC’s Chairman Mr. D. Michael Morton. He spoke passionately about the importance of education and how one’s investment in education impacts greatly on society.

The distribution of award certificates was done by Mr. D. Michael Morton.

The award is opened to citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis who are normally resident in the Federation and intend to return to the Federation after completion of their course of study.
