(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- The quiet village of Barnes Ghaut was a hub of activity on Monday, April 20, 2015 as members of the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services (SKNFRS), ably assisted by dozens of volunteers, worked assiduously to put out a fire at a home located in the area.
Nevispages understands that the investigation team of the Cotton Ground Police Station is investigating the circumstances in which the home that was owned by the Smithen Family and occupied by Valerie and Hilda Smithen. According to information received, Valerie left for work and at about 12: 30 p.m. she was notified that flames were seen coming from the home.
The fire was observed by neighbors who initially tried to extinguished the fire, but they were however, whelmed by the blaze and SKNFRS was informed.
Members of the SKNFRS responded to the call and extinguished the fire. It was reported that the interior of the concrete house was destroyed and almost all of the occupants’ personal belongings were lost in the fire.
The cause of the fire is unknown at the moment.
