Basseterre, St. Kitts – (Friday, 30 August, 2013): In a congratulatory gesture, Dr. Terrance Drew, in partnership with the St. Kitts- Nevis Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, on Tuesday (August 27) presented a cheque for EC$5000 to the Conaree Football Club (CFC) in light of its historic achievement.
The CFC won the recently-concluded St. Kitts- Nevis Football Association’s Digicel Premier League, in which the team defeated the St. Pauls’ Football team with a 1-nil score.
A brief cheque handover presentation was held at Dr. Drew’s medical office on Cayon Street in Basseterre.
Present to accept the monetary gift, from Dr. Drew, on behalf of the CFC were: Team Captain -Stedroy Charles; Executive Member- Essinton Watts; Public Relations Officer- Delwayne Delany; President- Timothy Morton and also Andy ‘Walk Tru’ Liburd -the team player who scored the winning goal.
In laudatory remarks released on the heels of the team’s victory, Dr. Drew stated, “I think that the football team has transformed not only the young players to improve their game but also for them to become better men overall.”
He added, “As can be seen, the team’s efforts and victory have lifted the community. It shows that no matter how small you are or how scarce resources are, the most important ingredient to be successful is the will to win. I am extremely happy that I was able to work closely with the team during this time.”
Dr. Drew is the new St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party candidate for St. Christopher Eight set to contest the next General Elections.
He encourages the CFC team to continue working hard and to apply the spirit of togetherness and discipline into their lives in general.
The team placed second in the tournament last year (2012).
