BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, NOVEMBER 28TH 2014 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Director of Maritime Affairs, Mr. McClean Hobson is pleased with the developments taking place in the growing yachting industry in the twin-island federation.
Speaking at the launching ceremony of the National Yachting Policy on Thursday at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort Mr. Hobson noted that with the adoption of the policy, work will commence shortly to develop a strategic plan to implement its provisions.
“Even as we prepare to launch this policy, I am extremely pleased with the development currently taking place,” Mr. Hobson told stakeholders.
He pointed out that the Christophe Harbour Marina is nearing completion of the first phase.
“It is expected to accommodate the first yacht on the 9th December and employ at least 21 workers for the marina operations by mid-December,” Mr. Hobson said.
Mr. Hobson also disclosed that the St. Kitts Marine Works Marina at New Guinea, just outside Sandy Point is steadily progressing.
He said too that the Tamarind Cove Marina in Nevis has been approved by the Nevis Island Administration and construction is expected to commence shortly.
Mr. Hobson also disclosed that the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) at Port Zante, is expecting a consultant by December 14th and a French investment group by January 2015.
