It was a shocking result for the England women’s team, as they faced off with the Windies women on Tuesday in a must-win encounter in the ongoing women’s World Cup series 2024.
After all, the Windies women had not beaten them since 2018.
England scored 141 for 7 in their 20 overs and would have thought that that was enough.
However, the Windies openers, Hayley Matthews and Quiana Joseph, came out of the blocks blazing and were not parted until the score was 102.
The Windies then cruised to their target in 18 overs, and in the English camp, tears flew freely.
Summarised scores: England 141 for 7: Sciver-Brunt 57*
Fletcher 3 for 21; Matthews 2 for 25
West Indies 144 for 4: Joseph 52, Matthews 50
Glenn 1 for 20
Windies women won by six wickets
