Cricket : Pakistan Women take victory by 8 wickets over West Indies Women

HAMILTON, New Zealand- Pakistan Women defeated West Indies Women by 8 wickets in a rain-reduced match of their group stage encounter of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, at Seddon Park.

In a match reduced to twenty over per side, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl first. West Indies Women posted 89/7 from 20 overs.
Deandra Dottin top-scored with 27 off 35 deliveries which included five fours. Stafanie Taylor was next best with 18 off 31 balls.

Afy Fletcher 12 off 7 and Aaliyah Alleyne 9 off 16 shared in a 26-run partnership to remain not out at the end of the West Indies innings.

Nida Dar was the pick of the Pakistan bowlers, finishing with 4/10, followed by Omaima Sohail with 1/12.

Muneeba Ali top-scored for Pakistan in their run-chase, with 37 off 43 deliveries followed by Omaima Sohail with 22 not out from 27 deliveries. Shakera Selman took 1/16 followed by Afy Fletcher with 1/23 in the West Indies bowling effort.

West Indies Women’s Assistant Coach, Corey Collymore said, “I think we’ve been struggling all tournament and it’s finally caught up with us, we didn’t bat well enough today. We haven’t had consistent performances from our batters, we’ve only had one player for each game getting scores. The reduced overs shouldn’t have mattered, we needed to put a score on the board and pressure the opposition. I don’t think we soaked the pressure up enough with the bat or ball. We have one more game to go, we’ll sit and have a discussion. We’ll go into it with a positive mindset looking to win the game.”

West Indies Women will travel to Wellington where they will take on South Africa in their final group stage match at Basin Reserve on March 24, 11:00 am (March 23, 6:00 pm Eastern Caribbean Time/5 pm Jamaica Time).
