A very exciting cricket match was played at the ET Willet Park, on Thursday 16th March.
On that day, a touring under-13 team out of the USA engaged their Nevisian counterparts.
According to one official of the visiting team, the team comprises youngsters of Indian descent, but who originate from various parts of the USA.
He noted that it is a strong team, which is accustomed to winning.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first and opened their innings with Shiv and Lythe Browne out of Nevis, who was made an ‘honorary Indian’ as he was asked to assist the team with wicketkeeping duties.
Both Shiv and Browne batted superbly, with only a few alarms along the way.
They took the score to 184 for no loss, before they were parted. Thereafter the home team was able to make further inroads into the team’s batting.
The home team made a strong response of its own, led by a superlative knock by Amoree Jones, which took his team comfortably across the line.
Prior to the start of the game, a brief welcoming ceremony was held in the main pavilion, chaired by Director of Sports, Jamir Claxton.
Among those speaking at the ceremony were: Minister of Sports, Hon. Troy Liburd, representatives from the Indian team and President of the Nevis Cricket Association, Carlisle Powell.
