Austin JALA Browne, the stroke-filled, gritty, former opening batsman for the Nevis senior Cricket team, was one of eleven persons who received special awards, during the celebration of the 38th anniversary of the Independence of the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
The special ceremony was held at Government House in Nevis, on the 20th of September and the man from Brown Hill was presented his award, by fellow Brown Hillian, Deputy Governor-General, Her Honour, Mrs. Hyleta Liburd.
Over the years his service to the game was mainly for his beloved Brown Hill team and for the Nevis senior team.
He made his debut for Nevis and served well for an extended period as not only a dependable batsman but also bowled wrist spin with some authority and was a superb catcher as well.
He also excelled at football and played for the Brown Hill team and the Bath United club, at various points in his outstanding career.
Though he generally has the outlook of a very quiet and subdued individual, pace bowlers especially would have felt the wrath of both his tongue and his bat as he never shied away from a challenge
Mr. Browe expressed gratitude for the award.
