TASMANIA, Australia:
Shai Hope’s disappointing outing with the bat didn’t prevent the Hobart Hurricanes from registering a dominant five-wicket victory over the struggling Adelaide Strikers when the Big Bash League continued yesterday.
It was the Hurricanes’ fourth win in five games and moved them up to third in the table on eight points, behind leaders Sydney Strikers, who have nine points from six games and the Sydney Thunder, who also sit on eight points from five games but have a better run rate than the Hurricanes.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Strikers posted a competitive 186 for five from their 20 overs.
They were led by opener Chris Lynn who scored 49 from 27 balls and captain Alex Ross, who hit 47 from 29 balls, while Jaime Overton lashed an unbeaten 27 off 18 balls.
Hope, the West Indies ODI captain, then made just 11 from 12 balls, but Tim David struck an unbeaten 62 off 28 balls with six sixes and three fours to lead the Hurricanes to 187 for five in 18.4 overs.
Opener Mitchell Owen contributed 37 and his partner Matthew Wade scored 27 in an opening partnership of 61 inside five overs to give the Hurricanes a blazing start. – CMC
