In a stunning display of skill, Rahkeem Cornwall delivered a match-winning performance that led the Leeward Islands Hurricanes to a commanding six-wicket victory over the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) Marooners at Queen’s Park Oval on Sunday. This impressive showing secured the Hurricanes’ spot in the semifinals of the CG United Super50 Cup as the round-robin phase concluded.
Cornwall dominated the Marooners’ batting lineup, taking six wickets for just 20 runs. His exceptional bowling performance left the Marooners reeling, and they were ultimately bowled out for a mere 151 runs in 36 overs. Notable contributions from Jonathan Drakes (48) and Shaqkere Parris (38) were not enough to prevent the collapse. Cornwall’s brilliance on the field earned him widespread praise from both teammates and fans.
When it was time to chase down the target, Cornwall showcased his batting prowess, scoring an unbeaten 84 runs off just 39 balls. His exhilarating innings, featuring towering sixes and blazing boundaries, propelled the Hurricanes to a total of 154 runs for the loss of six wickets in just 19.4 overs, sealing a memorable victory.
With this win, the Hurricanes moved into third place in the standings with 51 points, setting up an exciting semifinal matchup against the Jamaica Scorpions on Thursday at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba. The Scorpions, who finished with 53 points, narrowly edged out the Hurricanes in the standings, ensuring a competitive clash between the two teams.
The first semifinal, scheduled for Wednesday, will see tournament leaders Trinidad and Tobago Red Force (63 points) face off against Barbados Pride (46 points) at the same venue.
