The annual cross channel swim between St. Kitts and Nevis, which had taken a two hiatus, due to the covid -19 crisis, took place on Sunday 27th March.
A total of 139 individuals participated in the grueling swim from Oualie Beach in Nevis, to Cockle Shell in St. Kitts.
Ages ranged from the youngest being 10 years old
to the oldest, who is 76 years old.
Christian Vanderray of Michigan in the USA, stormed his way to the finish line, in 58 minutes and 40 seconds, just a little off the long-established record of 56 minutes.
There were a couple of outstanding features in the race, from a Nevis standpoint:
Kudos must be given to the chief coordinator of the event, Winston Crooke and his team, for, as usual, doing a marvelous job.
Robert Liddie created history by becoming the first special Olympian to attempt the cross channel swim and completed it in grand style.
There was also much joy for swim coach, James Weekes, who trained seven youngsters, ranging from 10 years old, to early teens and all of them covered the full distance, with some placing well, in their various age categories.
Justin Williams was first in the under 19 males category and Skyla Connor, was first in the under 19 females category.
