Chris Brown faces jail over possible Rihanna probation violation
CALIFORNIA, United States, – Chris Brown’s latest hit has landed him in a whole heap of trouble and could have far-reaching consequences.
Brown, 24, has been charged with a criminal hit-and-run after allegedly failing to provide adequate information when he was involved in a minor fender-bender last month.
The R&B singer is said to have driven away from the scene of the accident without producing a valid driver’s license or insurance information.
Now, the Los Angeles City attorney who filed the charges against Brown is referring the matter to the county district attorney, who will determine whether the incident violates the terms of Brown’s probation in the case of his 2009 assault on his then-girlfriend, Barbadian superstar Rihanna.
Should the “Turn up the Music” singer be found guilty of breaking probation, he could be sentenced to up to four years in jail.
After news of the charges broke, Brown took to Twitter to voice his grievances against the alleged victim in the hit-and-run.
“It’s not a hit and run if u get out the car, exchange information (who has NO DAMAGE to either cars). This is really ridiculous,” the singer tweeted.
“I have a valid drivers license and I gave the woman the right info. She saw cameras and wanted to make a scene,” he continued. “She contacted the cops thinking of a payday from Chris Brown when I followed the proper procedures.
