The finals of the 2015 edition of the TDC sponsored Primary School Cricket championship, was held at the ET Willet Park on Friday 10th July.
There was a fair sized crowd on hand to witness the encounter.
The VOJN team won the toss and elected to bat first and were at one point comfortably placed on 60 without loss and with main batsman Peter Charles, still at the crease.
However, enter James Swanston. The young wrist spinner who is the son of Clinton ‘Swanny’ Swanston, wove webs around the batsmen, starting with Peter Charles, who was caught at long on off his bowling and he picked up two ko0re wickets as well.
When the CPS team batted, they were in chase of a victory target of 83 from their allotted 15 overs.
They were in a dicey situation at one time, having lost a few crucial wickets. However, from the time Akadianto Willet came to the crease, his batting was reminiscent of his Dad—Tonito Willet and he really took the assault to all of the bowlers. It was as if he had a plane to catch!
Fittingly, he was the one to slam the winning boundary through midwicket and then the celebrations began.
Summarized scores: VOJN: 82 for 3 in 15 overs: Peter Charles 32; Tyrel Mills 16
James Swanston 3 for 10
CPS: 83 for 4 in 11.4 overs: Akadianto Willet 25*; Anderson Amurdon 16; Kenaicy Dorset 15*; Kirmani Nisbett 2 for 21.
Immediately after the final match, the closing/awards ceremony was held.
