It was Thursday, January 16, 2020, and Gulf Insurance Primary School champions for the last two years, the Charlestown Primary school, kicked off the athletic season with a fantastic series of road relays. This involved Kindergarten to two-year-olds; grades 3 and 4 and grades 5 and 6 – BOYS AND GIRLS.
The route commenced at the school and wound through certain specific roads in the nearby Ramsbury area, with the smaller children allowed a much shorter route, but all ended at the school. There was the usual hype and banter, as parents, siblings, even grandparents and other supporters of the school, showed up in their numbers.
All of the races created much excitement, with parents and other supporters, some who have not run for ages, bravely attempting to run alongside the athlete or athletes, who they were supporting. Many had to pull up panting, however, as the youthful youngsters generally left them in the dust.
The final race of the day, definitely took the cake, as the grades 5 and 6 boys, stormed around the track and the final baton pass, had the spectators screaming frenetically, as the Green and Blue house athletes neared the finish line and refusing to give ground.
