CEMSS to Receive Electrical Upgrades‏

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 25th 2016 (BNTF): As the Charles E. Mills Secondary School (CEMSS), formerly known as the Sandy Point High School, celebrates 50 years of producing top scholars and athletes, it will be receiving a much needed upgrade to its electrical installation.

With the help of the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF), the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis (GOSKN), the high school founded in 1966 received funding to upgrade the electrical installation along three blocks of the school.

On Wednesday November 9th 2016 the contract was signed in the presence of Mr. Cromwell Williams, Director of Public Works, Mr. Ken Cassell, CDB Consultant, Ms. Azilla Clarke, BNTF Acting Project Manager, Mr. Nubian Greaux of New Generation Engineering, who was awarded the contract, and his witness.

Valued at EC$214,390, works are expected to start on Monday November 28 2016 and be completed within a six- eight week timeframe.

A key component of quality education requires a suitable facility. This was being hindered at the Charles E Mills Secondary School by dark classrooms and exposed damaged switches.  Therefore, as a result of this intervention, not only will the safety of the community’s children be improved, but it will also provide the opportunity for more technologically based teaching methods to be undertaken.  CEMSS’ current and future students and faculty can expect a much brighter future.

Likewise, invitations to tender for the Cayon High School Technical Drawing Lab Rehabilitation will commence on Monday November 28th 2016.

The BNTF invests heavily in its Education and Human Resource Development portfolio to develop the nation’s people to ensure overall positive growth in the Federation.  The sector alone received EC$3,840,042 in funding of an overall EC$5,556,625 budget.
