CEMSS Students Gain Skills and Knowledge From Visit To Agriculture Dept
Agricultural Science enrolled students at the Charles E Mills Secondary School paid a visit to the Plant Propagation Unit at the Department of Agriculture, St. Kitts on Thursday, 11th May 2023.
The purpose of the visit was to provide a practical experience that would help to develop the knowledge and skills of the students who are pursuing secondary-level science and technology, principles and practices of agriculture studies.
During the visit, Agronomist at the Department of Agriculture, Bronte Tucker facilitated the hands-on learning session where the students were introduced to the different methods of plant propagation, taught the importance of plant propagation in Agri-Business and were given the opportunity to explore the various propagation techniques through on-site demonstrations.
Propagation Technician, Keifer Kelly assisted by showing the students the step-by-step methods of grafting, air layering, root cuttings, budding and seed scarification.
The Plant Propagation lesson wrapped up with a comprehensive demonstration of how to use propagation tools like budding tape and knife, pruners, grafting clips, aluminum foil and plastic wraps to successfully perform the scientific procedures.
