Grand Cayman is under a tropical storm warning as of 7 pm Monday.
Tropical storm force winds are expected within the next 36 hours from Potential Tropical Cyclone 9, which is currently 98 miles from Grand Cayman and moving north-northwest at seven mph.
Tropical storm winds could arrive by 1 am on Tuesday.
Weather officials say residents should expect rough seas, thunderstorms, and flooding in low-lying areas. A flood warning and small craft warning are also in effect.
As of 4 pm today, the storm was located 96 miles south-southwest of Grand Cayman with maximum sustained winds of 30 mph, moving north at seven mph. Winds of 35 to 40 mph for Grand Cayman and 29 to 35 mph for the Sister Islands are expected.
Up to 19 inches of rainfall for Grand Cayman and 9 inches for the Sister Islands is expected.
In the meantime, Governor Owen has urged residents, particularly those in low-lying or coastal areas, to remain vigilant and take precautions against potential flooding, high winds, and rough seas.
She told residents updates on sandbag distribution will continue to be shared by government agencies.
Sandbag Stations are available at the Agriculture Pavilion, West Bay Fire Station, Frank Sound Fire Station, Linford Pierson Highway in Grand Cayman Watering Place Gardens and Cotton Tree Bay in Cayman Brac.
