BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, FEBRUARY 25TH 2013 (CUOPM) – Transportation ministers in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is to meet within the next two to three months to look at the matter of aviation.
St. Kitts and Nevis’ Minister of Tourism and International Transportation, Sen. the Hon. Richard “Ricky” Skerritt said he was able to make an intervention at the just concluded meeting of Caribbean leaders at the 24th Inter-Seasonal Meeting of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in his capacity as . Chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s Aviation’s Taskforce on the issue of transportation.
In an interview in the VIP Lounge at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport shortly after returning to the Federation from Haiti, Mr. Skerritt said there was strong complementary inputs from several Prime Ministers to the point where CARICOM made a decision that sometime within the next 2 to 3 months, a meeting will be held of Transportation Ministers across the CARICOM member states to look more pointedly to the issue of aviation.
“So CARICOM has now placed formally on the agenda that issue, for a meeting to take place sometime within the next few months and then report to the next CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting in July in Trinidad and Tobago, with that specific item on that agenda. So I think it is fair to say that that is a significant achievement,” said Minister Skerritt, who was part of the Federal delegation, led by St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.
