The success of the Sugar Boyz creating history in qualifying for the CONCACAF Gold Cup is not an accident and is achieved in large part by the strategic plan executed by the SKNFA. So explains 2nd Vice president of the SKNFA Executive and Head of the St. Kitts and Nevis delegation at the Gold Cup Mr. Cuthbert Caines. Mr. Caines praised the players and technical staff but had high praises for SKNFA President Atiba Harris for his vision and strategic plan, which led to the success of the team.
“I think the strategic plan that he would put in place with the assistance of our technical director Mr. (Lenny) Taylor (helped us achieve this goal); even though we have achieved this goal earlier than we expected. I think he was on point….it just materialized quicker than we expected,” Caines said.
As head of the delegation, Mr. Caines noted that a lot of work is being done to ensure the needs of the delegation are met, despite the challenges. This trip has been a challenging trip and I think that the success that I have achieved thus far as HOD is credited to our team manager Jamir Claxton,” Caines said, adding that Claxton has been there since the youth teams.
“I think the skill and experience he has brought and my own managerial skills and administrative skills; we just blend ideally. We have had many challenges, but we have been able to weather them, we know how to work with the players. It has not really been a big challenge besides the negative forces outside. We just stood focused; ignore those and executed our plan,” he added. “Achieving this goal and being here is just the success (of teamwork).”
The Sugar Boyz created history by qualifying for the Gold Cup for the very first time in the history of St. Kitts and Nevis football, defeating Curacao and French Guiana to gain the spot.
