The grand draw for the Masters’ Cricket club raffle was held at the DR Walwyn Plaza on Monday 4th January.
President of the Nevis Masters’ Association, Franklyn KUT Daniel and Manager of the Nevis Masters’ team, Oscar KING ASTRO Browne, officiated at the draw.
Interestingly, quite a number of tickets were sold as the minutes ticked away to the grand draw.
Passersby, paused to listen to the sounds of DJ BULF and purchased tickets in the process.
According to Daniel, ‘once you support the Masters’ team, you are a winner, because the Nevis Masters’ team is a winning team—three peat Leeward Islands champions and we plan to make it four in a row in St.Croix next year,’ he said confidently.
Students from the Charlestown Sixth form college and Charlestown Secondary school and other curious onlookers, assisted with making the various draws.
The following were the results:
3rd place consolation prizes of $50.00 worth of gasoline: Gavin Smithen # 873; Ken Simmonds # 128; Eric Evelyn # 524 and Anezka Parris # 483
2nd place-Tracey Parris # 293—Round trip ticket to St.Croix
1st place—Allister BILLY Cornelius of Cherry Garden # 490-55” smart television set.
In receiving his prize, Billy noted that he had never won in a raffle before despite participating for many years and he thought that he should not take a chance on this one. However, after he was encouraged he bought a ticket and he stated that he was pleasantly surprised when he got the phone call.
“It makes me want to continue to play,’ he said.
The Masters’ raffle was all part of fund raising endeavours launched by the Nevis Masters’ Cricket club, towards the defence of their championship trophy, in May. The tournament this year will be held in St.Croix.
