Basketball : NBA Star with Nevisian Roots Conducts Coaching Clinic in Nevis

National Basketball Association (NBA) professional Basketballer for the Brooklyn Nets, Nicholas Claxton, is currently in Nevis on vacation.
The big NIC who stands 6 ft 11 inches tall and is just 24 years of age, has Nevisian blood in him, as his father’s family originates in Bath Village.
Along with him, was his Dad, Charles, his mom, Nichole and his girlfriend, Moriah.
An official welcoming ceremony was held at the Grell Hull Stevens Netball Complex, which was ably chaired by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Sports, Mr. Kevin Barrett.
Also making brief remarks, was Premier Mark Brantley who indicated to the dozens of Primary and Secondary School students present, that ‘anything is possible, once persons are willing to make the sacrifice and put in the necessary work.’
Adding his voice to the warm welcome, was Minister of Sports, Hon. Troy Liburd, (who is actually a relative of the NBA star), who was quick to point out that NIC is part of the 1% of the coveted 1% of outstanding basketballers who eventually get onto the world stage, as part of the prestigious NBA tournament.
NIC for his part, noted that he was proud to be on the island of his roots and stated that he was happy to be able to share with the young basketballers on the island.
Immediately following the ceremony, NIC and his Dad, ran a coaching clinic with the many students present, assisted by local coaches.
At the completion of the on-court session, which had to be curtailed due to incessant showers, NIC gave a pep talk to the youngsters present and answered their many questions, as regards his journey to stardom.
The afternoon concluded with the young basketballers and coaches taking keep-sake photos with the star and getting personal items autographed.
They also received paraphernalia, compliments of Nic and the Brooklyn Nets.
