In a dominant display of bowling prowess, Barbados Pride cruised to an emphatic eight-wicket win against Trinidad & Tobago Red Force in the West Indies Championship, thanks to stellar performances from Jomel Warrican and Jason Holder.
Test left-arm spinner Warrican proved to be the most potent weapon in the Pride’s arsenal, claiming six wickets for 31 runs from his 17 overs. Meanwhile, former West Indies captain Holder provided crucial support with four wickets for 23 runs from 12.1 overs of medium-fast bowling.
The Red Force, who started the day at 100 for three, faltered against the disciplined bowling attack, collapsing to 124 all out in their second innings within an hour of play on the third day at Queen’s Park Oval. Left-hander Amir Jangoo managed only five runs to his overnight score before falling to Holder for 35, while Red Force captain Joshua Da Silva added a mere six runs before being dismissed by Warrican.
A brief scare with the loss of two quick wickets
Despite a brief scare with the loss of two quick wickets in their chase of 20 runs for victory, the Pride eventually sealed the win with ease. Jonathan Drakes, the first innings batting hero, remained unbeaten on 14 alongside West Indies Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite, guiding the Pride to victory.
The comprehensive victory against their arch-rivals is set to provide a significant boost in points for the Pride, reaffirming their dominance in the championship.
Looking ahead, Barbados Pride will face the Leeward Islands Hurricanes in the sixth round, commencing on April 10 at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua. Meanwhile, Trinidad & Tobago Red Force will remain at home to take on the Combined Campuses & Colleges Marooners at Frank Worrell Field on the St Augustine campus of the University of the West Indies.
