Athletics St. James’ Primary To Host Relay Rumble

The St. James Primary School is excited to announce its first-ever ‘Relay Rumble,’ which will include all public primary schools on Nevis. An invitation has also been extended to private primary schools on the island, although their participation is still to be confirmed.

This grand event is scheduled for Friday, January 17th, at 1 PM. The Relay Rumble will be a road relay race that aims to become an annual signature event for the school, similar to the KIDS ATHLETICS program established by Coach Kurvin Wallace at JLPS, the Relay Fest initiated by Coach Adelvin Philip at EPPS, and the Skipping Competition created by Coach Emmanuel Caines at St. Thomas’ Primary.

Ms Catherine Seabrookes-Wilkinson, the headmistress of St. James’ Primary, shared that the idea for the event was presented to her by the school’s coaches, Adrian Williams and Cileen Hendrickson. She believes it is a fantastic initiative and is fully supporting it, backed by sponsorship from many local businesses.

Coaches Williams and Hendrickson have outlined the categories and routes for the various age groups. These routes were finalized in December 2024 with the help of coaches from other schools during a collaborative meeting.

For Kindergarten to Grade Two, the children will run from the school through the nearby housing project and return to the school.

Grades 3 and 4 will start at the ditch in Barnaby Village, run between the apartments of the Medical University, return to the main road, and exchange batons on the way back to the school.

Grades 5 and 6 will begin at M&M Enterprises, located in Camps, with the first baton exchange taking place at Pastor Jones’ church. They will continue along the main road back to the school.

Each school will have two boys and two girls represented in each category for the baton exchange stations.

Headmistress Seabrookes-Wilkinson is encouraging the sporting community to mark their calendars and come out to support their respective schools at what promises to be an exciting event.
