Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gastón Browne, addressed the United Nations General Assembly, highlighting the devastating impact of the climate crisis on small island developing states (SIDS). Browne emphasized that for SIDS countries, climate change is not just a hypothetical threat, but a harsh reality characterized by hurricanes, burning ecosystems, and flooding villages.
He stressed that these countries are disproportionately affected by a crisis they did not cause, a debt crisis they did not create, and conflicts in which they are not involved. Browne urged for urgent action to address poverty, hunger, and climate change, emphasizing the need to fight for justice, equity, peace, and human dignity.
