ANNUAL CROSS CHANNEL SWIM ON FOR THIS SUNDAY

The annual cross channel swim, which will be its 14th edition, will take place this coming Sunday-27th March.

Chief organizer of the prestigious event, Winston Crooke, confirmed on Tuesday that everything was pretty much in place for the event.

The swim distance is 2.5miles (4km)

The swimmers commence the swim at Oualie Beach on Nevis and conclude at Cockleshell Bay on St Kitts.

The Bente Weber memorial swim offers the opportunity to both speedsters and adventurers to take on the best open ocean swimmers in the region and the world.

In 2013 there were a record number of finishers (127) and in 2011 a new event record was set by Olivier Marceau in a time of 58:09.

One of the attractions of this event is that it is not only a race but also a challenge, so persons who are not fast or competent swimmers are advised to use fins or a snorkel mask to get them across the beautiful ‘Narrows’.

As per usual, the swimmers will be accompanied en route by boats and kayakers, as a safety precaution.

The swimmers are expected to assemble at Oualie beach by 6.30 am in preparation for a 7.00 am SHARP start.
