BASSETEERE, ST. KITTS, OCTOBER 16TH 2013 (CUOPM) – Over 200 public, private sector and non-governmental officials meet on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th for the 16th Annual National Consultation on the Economy.
The exercise in good governance, transparency and accountability by the ruling St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Administration is in preparation for the annual presentation of the Budget in December.
This year’s consultation is being held under the theme “The Green Economy- A pathway Towards a Sustainable Future.”
The Ministry of Finance said it will be held from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon on both days.
Economic partners will meet on Thursday and Social partners on Friday so as to facilitate greater dialogue between the various stakeholders.
The Opening Ceremony on Thursday will see the invocation being said by Rev. Christopher Archibald of the St. Kitts Christian Council.
Welcome remarks will be said by the Financial Secretary, Mrs. Hilary Hazel.
Remarks will be said by Mr. David Lake, President of the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce; Sir K. Dwight Venner, Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank; the Hon. Vance Amory, Premier of Nevis and the Feature Address by the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.
The Ministry said this year’s discussion will focus on the Green Economy as a viable option for building a sustainable future for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Some of the issues to be explored include the Ministry of Finance update on Fiscal and Debt issues, Perspectives on the Green Economy, Social dimensions of the Green Economy – implications for water resources and waste management.
