The Elizabeth Pemberton Primary School, held its annual cross country events, on Friday 11th February.
Easily, the race of the day was the Junior girls’ race.
Apparently, nobody had her in the top ten, far less the top three, but the little Cuban national, Roxana Labrada, stunned the spectators, big time.
The second placer, Taz –Noeja Wilkin, is much taller and much more powerfully built and most of the onlookers thought that she would take the race, with ease.
It looked that way in the initial stage, as they started at the school, but nearing the Montpelier Hotel, Roxana started to make her presence felt.
Every time she got close, Taz-Noeja sprinted away, but Roxana maintained that one steady pace, running a very smart race and waited until Taz-Noeja burnt out in the final hill and ran past her, to loud cheers.
Top placements:
1. Roxana Labrada
2. 2nd Taz-Noeja Wilkin
3. Decoy Liburd
4. Kareena Samlall
5. Jaela Elliot
