AT PROGRESS PARK – Guyana v Trinidad & Tobago
Trinidad and Tobago hit back with the ball to defend a low score and pick up a narrow 15-run win against Guyana in Round III. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the T&T batsmen were less than impressive, scoring quite slowly.
Vikash Mohan and Brian Christmas both hit half-centuries. Mohan made 51 while Christmas made an even 50. Bryan Charles also stepped up with the bat hitting 41.
But the Guyana bowlers manage to keep their opponents in check. Gudakesh Moti-Kanhai was the pick of the Guyanese bowlers with 4-49.
Shim Hetmyer in response led Guyana’s charge for victory, striking an aggressive 92 from just 80 balls. His knock included nine fours and three sixes. That’s well over half his runs coming in boundaries. But his effort would not be enough to get his team over the line.
Inspired by a good bowling performance by spinner, Bryan Charles (3-52), the T&T Under-19s fought back valiantly to bowl out the Guyanese for 170 inside 50 overs, picking up a 15-run victory.
