Fourteen wickets fell on the first day of Day 1 of Round 5 of the West Indies Championship as bitter rivals Trinidad and Tobago Red Force are hosting the Barbados Pride at the Queen’s Park Oval.
Winning the toss and batting first, Red Force were bowled out for 172 leaving Amir Jangoo stranded on 93 not out. Jangoo was the lone Red Force batsman to go beyond the 20-run mark, as the next best was Anderson Phillip with 15. Jason Holder ran riot on the Red Force batting lineup as he picked up 4/47, while Chaim-Alexis Holder had 3/28 and Shaquille Cumberbatch 3/50.
Red Force bowlers eased some of the anxiety as they struck blows with the ball, taking four Pride wickets before the close of play. Zachary McCaskie 46 and Kraigg Brathwaite 30 were the top scorers for the Pride on Day 1. Khary Pierre closed the day with 2/18, with one wicket a piece for Jayden Seales and Anderson Phillip.
The Combined Campuses and Colleges bowled out the West Indies Academy for 300 at the UWI SPEC in Trinidad.
Carlon Bowen-Tuckett played a patient innings of 76 not out and Johann Layne added a rapid 63 off 43 deliveries to take their team to a competitive first-innings score. The pair shared in a 96-run partnership before Layne fell as the last wicket. Yannick Ottley picked up a fifer for figures of 5/47 with Jediah Blades taking 3/59. In their reply, CCC reached 11/1 at the close of play, Damel Evelyn 10 and Zishan Motara 1 were the not-out batsmen.
At the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua, the Windward Islands Volcanoes bowled out Guyana Harpy Eagles for 308. Kevin Sinclair struck 74 while Kevlon Anderson 48 and Gudakesh Motie 46 were the next-best batters. Darel Cyrus was once again leading in the wickets column taking 5/67. Darius Martin 2/63 and Shamar Springer 2/75 helped wrap up the innings. The Volcanoes closed the day on 16/0.
Jamaica Scorpions closed day 1 against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes on 199/8 with Carlos Brown on 75 not out. Romaine Morris was the next best with 42. Jeremiah Louis led the Hurricanes bowlers with 3/34 while Colin Archibald 2/23 and Rahkeem Cornwall 2/58 were the other leading bowlers.
