The general public is hereby reminded of the legal requirements for vehicle license plates. Vehicle owners and operators must comply with the following standards regarding the appearance, position, and dimensions of license plates:
Colour and Ground of Plates
Private Vehicles: Letters and figures must be white, and the background must be black.
Public Service Vehicles
Rental Vehicles: The background must be red, with white letters and figures.
Taxis: The background must be yellow, with black letters and figures.
Tour Vehicles: The background must be pink, with black letters and figures.
Omnibuses: The background must be green, with white letters and figures.
Government-Owned Vehicles: Background must be white, with black letters and figures.
Diplomatic Vehicles: Background must be blue, with yellow letters and figures.
Dimensions of Letters and Figures
Letters and figures must be three-and-a-half (3½) inches high.
Each letter and figure must be five-eighths (5/8) of an inch broad.
The total width of space occupied by each letter or figure (except for the digit “1”) must be two-and-a-half (2½) inches.
Spacing Requirements
A half-inch (½ inch) space must be maintained between the letters and figures.
A margin must also be maintained between the nearest part of any letter or figure and the top and bottom edges of the plate.
Position of License Plate
The plates forming the identification mark should be fixed on the motor vehicle in the position specified in the application for registration or on the front and rear center of the vehicle.
All vehicle owners are urged to ensure that their license plates adhere to these specifications to avoid penalties. The Police Traffic Department will continue to monitor compliance and enforce these regulations.
