(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- Under the patronage of Ms. Gillian France and Mr. Nigel David the Violet O. Jeffers-Nicholls Primary School (VOJN), said farewell to twelve students at its Graduation and Prize Giving Ceremony, held on Tuesday, July 9, 2014. These students will be journeying onwards to the secondary school levels in September.
The ceremony was held at the Combermere Methodist Church under the theme, ‘Make wise investments in all the time you have’. This event marked another successful year for the principal and staffs of the VOJN Primary School.
The ceremony began with the invocation by Ms. Olive Daniel which was followed by the National Anthem sung by Ajuma Liburd.
The opening remarks were delivered by Chairperson, Mr. Ron Daniel.
In delivering the school’s 2014 annual School Report, Principal, Mrs. Shea Wilkin told those in attendance that she was very proud of what the school had accomplished over the past year. To the graduating class, Mrs. Wilkin noted, “You have completed your Primary School levels, we are very proud of your achievements. Strive and make wise investments in everything you do”. She congratulated Ajuma Liburd for placing in the top ten and placing 5th overall in the recently held Test of Standards. She continued, “Only the best is enough, nothing else will do. Work faithfully and never give up”. She told the graduates to always remember the school’s motto, ‘Aspiring for the best’. The principal also thanked the teachers for their hard work and dedication. “Look at the smart students that have passed through your hands”, she stated.
To the parents, she advised them to encourage the children to get hungry for a good education. She also encouraged them to have pride and to be their role models and their guides.
Education Officer, Mrs. Ilena Mills gave brief remarks on behalf of the Department of Education. Mrs. Mills saluted the principal, staff and graduates for a job well done. She advised the graduates to continue to work hard as they pursue their secondary level education.
CEO of Nevis Tourism Authority, Mr. Greg Phillip delivered the keynote address. He delivered a speech on making wise investments. He told the parents that the roles in their child(ren) lives are vital.
Student of the school, Ajuma Liburd received valedictory honors. She did a great job delivering her speech as she reflected on her time from Kindergarten to Grade 6.
Patron, Mr. Nigel David made remarks on behalf of the parents. He told the graduating class not to forget the discipline and morals they have learnt at the VOJN. He encouraged them to stay focused and always remember the school’s motto.
Ms. Michelle Freeman gave the vote of thanks.
Awardees were presented with certificates, prizes and bouquets. Poems, songs and renditions were delivered by the graduates and students of the school.
The event came to a close with the lighting of candles and recessional by the graduates.
