A Nevispages weekly feature by Curtis Morton Sr
The way I see it, I always love a good challenge.
So, recently I was challenged by a friend to give my candid opinion on the covid -19 situation in St. Kitts and Nevis and more specifically, in Nevis.
Well, there was a time when folks on Nevis were absolutely cock-a-hoop, when they realized that even as the cases in St. Kitts rose steadily, the cases in Nevis remained at a standstill.
There were even cries of: “Let us move Nevis away from St. Kitts!’
We continued to be generally causal and careless as a people. Lots of people insisted that ‘we ain’t got no covid here-what are you all worrying about?’
As a member of the covid task force compliance team, I got some SERIOUS WUD in some instances.
Then the tables turned, and now we are in a state of virtual panic. The cases are rising at an astronomical rate.
Last I heard, we have now reached a whopping 1121 cases in the Federation, with 969 cases on St. Kitts and 152 cases on Nevis and counting.
Well I newa!
There are 475 active cases in the federation, with 124 of those on Nevis.
My candid view is that we need to face reality.:
Covid -19 is real and it is HERE.
Covid -19 can kill!
So, what should be our response?
The much-publicized and proven safety protocols must be adhered to:
Wearing of masks; frequent and proper washing of hands with preferably liquid soap and running water; sanitizing hands frequently in the absence of soap and water; observing social distancing.
As regards the vaccine, we know that the jury is still out on that one and there are many ‘experts’ who have publicized many stories and there is also lots of information that we can access in our research, as we make up our minds.
To take the vaccine or not to take the vaccine is the question.
I have taken the vaccine, after much research and prayer. Nobody can say with any certainty what is the full extent of its protective powers and the side effects, but I have carefully weighed all of the pros and cons in the balances and I have made a calculated decision.
I have been told by persons that I have two more years to live.
Well, if that is the case, I will just enjoy these two years in Jesus’ name and seek to help as much of humanity as possible, in whatever ways possible.
Let me state clearly that even though I would encourage you, dear reader, to take the vaccine, I do not support mandatory vaccination or the firing of individuals from jobs, because they are not vaccinated.
Having said that though, persons who refuse to take the vaccine must realize that the business owners also have a right to protect their staff and customers and so not taking the vaccine, may have dire results.
So, the people who do not support the taking of the vaccines, do not have all the answers either and lots of people are only listening to other people and following suit.
We need to make up our own minds.
Statistics do show that vaccinated persons seem to weather the pandemic a lot better than the unvaccinated.
It comes down to choices.
If you take the vaccine, whatever the results are, you will have to live or die with it.
If you do not take the vaccine, you will have to live or die with it.
May God help us to be wise in our decision making and may we continually seek God in prayer, as he and only he, can save us.
That’s the way I see it. How do you see it?
