The way I see it, it just makes sense to pray morning, noon and night and ask God to be our guide in all of our endeavors. It even makes sense to pray as you take the steering wheel to drive your vehicle for another journey.
Thank God, I had done all that on the morning of Thursday 5th November. It was going to be a busy day. There was the reading program road run which I was scheduled to record at 8.30 am for starters, but I had planned to go to the office to complete the typing of an important document first.
It was about 7.55 am and I knew I was on schedule for another busy but productive day.
I was listening to some gospel music on Dominion radio and the world was mine. I was happy.
My only real concern was the long line of traffic and I was thinking to myself that we were having ‘St.Maarten traffic.’
Suddenly, the vehicle in front of me came to a screeching halt. I immediately slammed brakes and fortunately, as I normally do, I still had some space between the two vehicles when I stopped.
Then BAM! I was jolted forward and backward with the impact, securely fastened with my seat belt and knew right away that a vehicle had slammed into my rear. The impact forced me onto the vehicle in front of me.
After a few seconds, I came out and the driver of the vehicle behind me greeted me with the words: “Is dem children—they wouldn’t behave!’
Later it was explained that as he came around the corner, he looked back to tell some children in the bus, to sit down and behave and the rest is history…….
He called the Police who took statements and told us that we could settle the matter out of court which was done in an amicable manner.
The offending driver agreed in principle to take care of the resulting bills and we parted ways.
Now as news circulated about the accident and as people saw me walking throughout the day, persons advised me that I should ask the driver to pay for a rental for me during the period that I was inconvenienced but I refused.
You know why?
I want to deal with people in the way that I want people to deal with me.
One day I might get in a similar accident and I may be in the wrong. Not that I may get the person to be so lenient but I think that God would b pleased with my decision.
I remember many years ago, while starting my motor bike in the Charlestown Health Center yard, Mr. Anslyn’s dog jumped the wall fence and came over and bit me.
The Nurses treated me real quick and I knew that I would be okay. I was then advised to sue Mr. Anslyn.
I met Mr. Anslyn and he was very concerned about my welfare and offered to help. I told him that all I needed was for him to take care of his dog.
A few days later, he told me that he had taken care of the dog….permanently.
Well I newa!
I know that I have a dog too and I don’t know what will happen in the future so I deal with people as God would have me to.
And so, I am without transportation for the moment but I am just praising God because I know that it could have been a lot worse.
I have even been told that my neck may start to feel funny after a few days but I am praying to God that it will remain okay.
Let us do unto others as we would have them do unto us.
That’s the way I see it. How do you see it?
