The way I see it, we do not need to panic as much as we normally do, nor stress ourselves unnecessarily.
The book of Matthew, in God’s word, gives great admonitions and if we should take them literally, we would be a happier bunch of people
Check out these wonderful promises in Matthew 6: 25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold* the fowls of the air for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Fatherfeedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That evenSolomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
No, I am not going to preach up a sermon but I just want to let you know how wonderful God’s promises are.
It was just Sunday last and I went to Oualie Beach, to cover the annual cross channel swim.
Having completed all of the usual pre swim interviews, I started to make queries about transportation to St. Kitts, in order to get some of the swim action and capture the swimmers as they came in to Park Hyatt.
Well, the persons who I checked were not too accommodating and there was one who indicated that it would be $20.00 US per head and I had my wife and two younger relatives with me.
When I was about to give up on going to St. Kitts, that kind hearted legal luminary, Maurisha Robinson and her husband Will, allowed all of us to travel on their boat.
I was so grateful.
So, I was able to cover a bit of the swimmers in action between the two islands and their grand arrival at the Park Hyatt..
Good thing, we had walked with something to eat, because the refreshments were for the swimmers and the ‘officials.’
Having completed that task, we decided that we would remain in St. Kitts and witness the High Schools’ championship at the Kim Collins stadium.
I asked one Taxi driver how much to get us to town and he said about $45.00 US and he said he would give us a deal for $37.00 and broke it down as $25.00 from Park Hyatt to Marriott’s and $12.00 from Marriott’s to town..
Well I newa!
I certainly did not have that kind of money!
My wife left, as she had to do some business in town and I was completing the recording of the presentation ceremony.
Hers was another exciting experience but I will stick to mine.
So, I walked up to the main road and decided to catch a regular bus or hitch a ride.
To compound the problem, rain started to fall and there was nowhere to shelter—well, unless I would run back to the Park Hyatt and I very early decided against that.
So, am at the roadside, getting wet, feeling cold and miserable but determined to get to town.
I eventually decided to ‘shelter’ under a nearby guinip tree and even though I was still getting wet, it was definitely a marked difference from just being in the open.
I was getting stressed and frustrated and then I remembered…
I bowed my head in prayer and simply said:
‘Dear God, please send one of your vehicles to give me a lift into town, Amen.’
I then boldly returned to the roadside, in the pouring rain.
I saw a fair skinned lady, coming toward me, in an expensive looking vehicle and I put out my hand to flag her down. After all, God had sent an expensive one for me and at short notice…or so I thought!
When our eyes locked, the lady pressed down on the gas and pelted out of there, as if she had seen ‘ten jumbi!’
A short while after, I saw another sleek looking vehicle coming towards me. It was all glassed up but I decided to try my luck…
After all, I know my God has taste!
The individual passed me VUFF!
The rain eased a little thankfully and several more vehicles passed me straight. As a matter of fact, I stopped trying to stop them after a while.
Then I looked up and there was this car coming towards me.
Best way to describe it: It looked like it had completed its tour of duty, in this life.
I kept my hands down and then something told me to extend my arm.
The male driver stopped immediately and beckoned me to come.
Now, doesn’t my God have a sense of humour?
Instead of a sleek, new looking vehicle, he had sent ‘an older model’ and I almost let it go by.
Well I newa!
As we journeyed along, I engaged the driver in a conversation. He told me that people may be hesitant to give total strangers a ride ‘because of what’s going on.’
I did not even ask him why he stopped, because I knew that God had sent him—even if he did not know it!
He gave me his name and told me that he was from McKnight.
The expression on my face, must have been totally conspicuous, because he hastily said: ‘Not all bad things come out of McKnight!’
Well we journeyed along and we watched an oncoming vehicle moving at a good clip. By the way, my Good Samaritan was also going at a fair clip.
The driver heading towards us, suddenly made a right turn, without indicating and my new found friend, in order to avoid him, pulled hard to his left and we ended up on a dirt embankment and we rode that for what seemed like an eternity, while he tried to control the machine.
If I had pen and paper, I may have started to write my will!
But, the great God of heaven and earth, was not ready to call me home yet.
My hero, finally got the vehicle back onto the road and we continued the journey.
I virtually pinched myself, to verify whether or not I was still alive.
We finally got to town safely and I promised my chauffeur that anytime he comes to Nevis and he needs transportation, ask for me. He graciously accepted the invitation.
I linked up with my wife and relatives and she gave me a bag with something to eat.
Now we had some difficulty getting a ride to the Kim Collins stadium. There were no buses on the route.
Eventually, we saw one coming from the opposite direction. I tried to stop the driver.
He slowed down long enough to say: ‘Ah coming back.’
Then Rudy and Debbie passed by-people we know-long standing friends!
They stopped to query if we were okay.
You know Rudy turned right back to drop us to the stadium!
Before that however, when I stepped into Rudy’s vehicle, something wet fell on me from the bag I was holding.
I did not know that it contained a paper cup with drink and it tumbled over me and some spilled on my wife and some into the vehicle.
When it rains, it really pours—I mean literally!
Rudy was gracious about the incident and said he would clean it up.
We got to the stadium. I was able to record some races and when I was worrying again about how I was going to get home, we got word that Captain Lester and the MVP Mark Twain were leaving at 6pm.
My God is an awesome God and we only need to trust him some more.
So I close out with the remaining verses from Matthew 6: 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
May God help us to worry less in our circumstances and trust him more.
That’s the way I see it. How do you see it?
