The way I see it, the BLACK FRIDAY shopping tradition is really a farce-if you ask me.
First of all, I wonder why they had to call it BLACK Friday.
Couldn’t it as easily have been WHITE Friday?
In a lot of cases, the word BLACK is generally used to connote negative events and happenings and so you wonder why a day that is so much anticipated by people of all colour, is referred to as BLACK Friday.
Well I newa!
I went to my good friend Wikipedia and discovered the following:
‘Black is the darkest color, the result of the absence or complete absorption of visible light. It is an achromatic color, literally a color without hue, like white and gray. It is often used symbolically or figuratively to represent darkness, while white represents light.
In the Roman Empire, it became the color of mourning, and over the centuries it was frequently associated with death, evil, witches and magic. According to surveys in Europe and North America, it is the color most commonly associated with mourning, the end, secrets, magic, force, violence, evil, and elegance.’
It further states:
‘The most commonly repeated story behind the post-Thanksgiving shopping-related Black Friday tradition links it to retailers. As the story goes, after an entire year of operating at a loss (“in the red”) stores would supposedly earn a profit (“went into the black”) on the day after Thanksgiving, because holiday shoppers blew so much money on discounted merchandise. Retail companies used to record losses in red and profits in black when doing their accounting.’
So, for what it is worth, people all over the world, make long lines and get ready for the BLACK FRIDAY SALES.
In some instances, in the big cities, persons have been known to camp outside the business place of their choice, since the Monday before.
When the doors are eventually opened on the big day, you don’t want to see the chaotic rush to get inside!
Over the weekend just past, I am sure you saw videos of an incident in Tennessee, where one of the store clerks had to find safety on a table, due to the mad rush.
The experts even released advice to would be shoppers such as this one:
‘Highest risk of Black Friday violence:
1. Arkansas
2. Tennessee
3. West Virginia
4. North Carolina
5. Alabama]
Some persons shop via the internet but pay exorbitant sums anyway, for CHEAPER STUFF.
I heard one individual saying on television that she was planning to buy all of these stuff this year, but still owes on her credit card, for stuff purchased since last year-same time.
Well I newa!
Stranger still is the fact that the majority of people go for the BLACK Friday deals, then end up in the RED.
I can only do one quick comparison:
When Jesus Christ died on the cross that Friday—It was indeed a BLACK FRIDAY, but he shed his RED blood for ALL of us and if we accept, his sacrifice in faith, he can wash us and make us a WHITE as snow.
I would say we still need to be wise in our spendings and still wiser in making that eternal choice between HEAVEN and HELL.
That’s the way I see it, how do you see?
