The Maude Crosse Preparatory School celebrates 31 years of Independence

(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- Under the theme, ‘A nation on the move celebrating our progress’, the Maude Crosse Preparatory School celebrated 31 years of Independence with a programme on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the Charlestown Methodist Church hall.

The ceremony began with a prayer by Pastor Ron Daniel. This was followed by a student of the school, Janice Zheng playing the National Anthem on flute.

Chairperson of the ceremony, Ms. Kimone Moving gave some brief opening remarks. Ms. Moving stated that it was an esteemed pleasure to chair such an important event. She noted that as we celebrate Independence we should always remember our ancestors and as a people we ought always to be proud of our achievements as a nation.

Ms. Clayticia Daniel delivered the feature address. Ms. Daniel told the students of the Maude Crosse Preparatory School that they are the future leaders. “As we celebrate our progress on our 31st Anniversary, both students and teachers alike must work to achieve the highest of heights. Lets us continue to strive for greatness and not just wait until Independence to come around to celebrate our country”, she stated.

She further stated that we should always remember our country’s motto ‘Country Above Self’. Ms. Dainel noted that as leaders we must continue to build our country in order to make it better.

The Grade 5 teacher told the students, that it was important for them to come to school daily so that they may be able to emulate the late Hon. Llewellyn Bradshaw, First Premier of St. Kitts-Nevis, or the late Dr. Simeon Daniel, first Premier of Nevis. She encouraged the students to continue working hard and to aim to be great achievers.

Department of Education official Mrs. Grenyon also gave some remarks. She noted that as we celebrate our 31 years of Independence, we must celebrate this great achievement with pride. Mrs. Grenyon stated that while we celebrate as a nation, let us all encourage and direct others to follow a positive path.

“Let us remember, no man is an island, no man stands alone. So let us stand as a nation as we continue to go forward”, she concluded.

Students of the school from Kindergarten to Grade 6 participated during the ceremony by singing and reciting patriotic poems, while proud parents; teachers and well-wishers looked on beaming with pride. The students of Grade 6 brought the ceremony to a close with an exciting medley that had the audience singing and dancing along.

Mr. Junior Parris made his contribution with a pan rendition.

Chairperson of the event Miss Kimone Moving gave the vote of thanks.
