Tessanne Chin to Perform at 2014 St. Kitts Music Festival

Season 5 Winner of NBC’s ‘The Voice’ TV Show To Be a Highlight of the 18th Annual Event

BASSETERRE (15th January, 2014): The St. Kitts Tourism Authority and the St. Kitts Music Festival committee today announce that Tessanne Chin, season 5 winner of NBC’s hit reality TV competition show, The Voice, will be performing at the 18th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival, which will take place from Thursday, June 26 to Saturday, June 28, 2014.

“St. Kitts Musical Festival patrons first fell in love with Tessanne when she performed here early in her career in 2007, and we are even more pleased to welcome her back to St. Kitts this year following her recent career-changing The Voice victory,” said Senator Ricky Skerritt, Minister of Tourism & International Transport.

A Jamaican reggae fusion artist, Tessanne Chin earned her fame earlier this year by winning Season 5 of NBC’s reality TV show The Voice. Born to musical parents and raised in Jamaica, Tessanne started performing at just six years old with Cathy Levy’s Little People and Teen Players Club, one of Jamaica’s top performing arts schools, before moving to England at age 12.

Upon her return to Jamaica, Tessanne joined the Jamaican Rock Band, “Mile High” and performed for crowds at numerous local venues including Jazz fest, Rock fest, and RETV Unplugged. Upon leaving the group to launch her solo career, Tessanne started writing songs for her debut CD. Her debut single, “Hideaway,” received heavy rotation on Jamaican radio and select stations in New York and both the single and its music video were very popular.

After winning The Voice, Tessanne performed at the annual Rose Bowl Parade atop the first ever The Voice float on January 1, 2014 and has since performed at Shaggy’s benefit concert, “Shaggy and Friends.” On January 12, 2014, she headlined her first show in celebration of her victory on The Voice, which was held in downtown Kingston with free admission. Tessanne’s major label debut album is scheduled to be released at the end of the year.

Now in its 18th year, the St. Kitts Music Festival attracts both locals and visitors alike. It features a wide range of musical styles on the popular market, including R&B, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Soca, Calypso, Gospel and Contemporary music. Past artists have included such prominent acts as John Legend, Lionel Richie, T-Pain, Michael Bolton, K.C. and the Sunshine Band, UB40’s Ali Campbell, Wyclef Jean, Ne-Yo, Air Supply, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Shaggy, Toni Braxton, The Commodores, Dionne Warwick, Billy Ocean, Sean Paul, Boyz II Men, King Konris, Stephen Marley, Regina Belle, Maxi Priest, Beres Hammond, Roberta Flack, Biggie Irie, Bunny Wailer and Lord Nelson.
