Tennis On Nevis Not Dead

It may come as a surprise, but the game of Tennis on Nevis is still very much alive.

Long-serving President of the Nevis Tennis Association recently spoke of a fairly successful year in Tennis for 2022.

A group of adults meets at the court situated next to the Charlestown Secondary School, most evenings for training sessions.

The highlight of the year was a training camp for children ages 6 to 16, which was held between August 8th and 19th 2022. Some 40 children were exposed to the fundamentals of the game, which included front hand, backhand, volley, service and rallies.

During the year, the main court at Stoney Grove was resurfaced and fenced and provided with new lighting.

Exchanges with counterparts in St. Kitts were also a regular feature of the year.

Going forward into 2023, the Association has a number of plans which include the following:

AGM to elect a new executive for the Nevis Tennis Association; Saturday sessions for children; Tennis carnival when parents and children will unite in an afternoon of Tennis related fun; community tennis which will see the establishment of clubs throughout the island; introduction of Tennis as a sport in the Primary schools; training of coaches; training of players in scoring, umpiring and the general rules of the game.
