NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (May 21, 2013) –Premier of Nevis and Minister of Security in the Nevis Island Administration Hon. Vance Amory plead to persons who had knowledge of any crimes committed on the island that would lead to their solution, to contact the Police.
Mr. Amory’s appeal came in a statement on May 21, 2013, hours after two homicides on the island and another on May 14 and reassured that the NIA would do all in its power to stem the sudden surge in crime on the island.
“I am making an appeal to all of our citizens that if you have any information which will lead to the solution of these crimes, lead to the Police finding the persons who were involved that you call the Police. The Police have given us a number 1-800-8477 which will enable them to handle your information in the strictest confidence and will also allow them to follow any leads which you will give in a confidential manner to deal with the investigation and the solution of these crimes.
“Your Government, I promise, will do all in its power to protect you the citizens of Nevis and to ensure the security and peace of our island home but we enlist your support, we enlist the support of every man, woman and child in this effort and we pray that God will help us in this endeavour to rid our country of crime against anyone,” he said.
Mr. Amory explained that he had not for a moment thought that he would have had to address the matter of crime but had moved quickly to discuss with the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force High Command what could be done to minimise and eradicate crime on Nevis.
“Today is a sad day for me, a sad day for St. Kitts and Nevis because last night a young lady Chazere Davis was killed under circumstances under which the Police are still investigating. In the early hours of the morning, a young man Jamal Isles was gunned down at his home in Fountain.
“Two homicides in less than 24 hours is really a very serious situation for us here in Nevis and so as a Cabinet we met and we asked the Commissioner and Superintendent in Nevis to meet with us so we could discuss how to move in dealing with this criminal activity. I want to say that we will put all of our support behind the Police in this matter,” he said.
However, Premier Amory used the opportunity to extend his condolences to the aggrieved families, relatives and friends.
“I wish to extend to the family and friends of Chazere Davis and Jamal Isles very deep condolences and I know that words are not enough to assuage the hurt and the trauma and the loss which the family and friends are feeling but your Government feels your pain. We want you to know that we will, as we have started today, take positive steps to get the Police to bring all those who are involved in these criminal acts to justice,” he said.
