(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- The Nevis Basketball team, along with their counterparts from St.Kitts left the Charlestown harbour at about 11.30 a.m. on Thursday morning en route to Montserrat.
Both teams traveled via the MV Mark Twain on their way to participating in the recently revived Leeward Islands Basketball tournament which will run from Thursday, December 4 to Tuesday, December 9, 2014.
Coach of the Nevis team, Mr. Dwayne Warner stated that he expected his team to perform creditably.
Asked about what had transpired in his team’s final practice match on Monday night, when a mixed team gave them a god challenge, Warner noted that they were trying new things but vowed that his team would be focused in Montserrat.
Captain Kurt Herbert is also convinced that his team will do well. ‘Once we stick to what we practiced,’ he stated.
The captain of the St.Kitts team was also very confident of success in Montserrat. ‘We are one of the better teams in the Leeward’s,’ he said. ‘Once we remain united, it would be hard for anyone to beat us,’ he said confidently.
As the players waited for the boat, they had a few jibes at each other. One Kittitian player was overheard telling one of the Nevis players: ‘I hope we not playing you in the first match…don’t want to dull your spirit.’
