Taxi Operators Hold Productive Meeting with Tourism

A Special Improvement Committee To be Established
BASSETERRE (8th November, 2016): A lively and productive meeting on how to improve operations on Port Zante took place Monday night, with participation from taxi and tour operators, the Minister of Tourism, The Hon. Lindsay F.P. Grant, along with officials from the Ministry of Tourism and the St. Kitts Tourism Authority.

As the St. Kitts cruise sector continues to grow and the benefits realized, tourism officials organized a special meeting at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel to discuss ways to improve the level of services to cruise ship visitors.

Minister Grant said the meeting was about listening to each other and working together to further develop the cruise sector.

“I commend all of the taxi and tour operators who attended the meeting, and participated in the discussions,” Grant said. “I listened to everybody who had suggestions, and it was clear that we all agreed that it cannot be business as usual on Port Zante. We need to work together to create new systems and procedures that will ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to make money, while not compromising, but improving on the quality of the guests’ experience.”

The meeting ended with an agreement to form a special committee, comprising of representatives from throughout the cruise sector, to formulate new operational systems for Port Zante.

Taxi and tour operators asked questions, and gave feedback on how to improve operations on Port Zante.
The meeting included representation from all three of the taxi associations: Liamuiga Taxi Association, St. Kitts Taxi Association and the St. Kitts Taxi Co-Operative. Also present were independent taxi and tour operators.

Also present at the head table with Minister Grant was the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Carlene Henry-Morton, CEO of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority Racquel Brown, Assistant Secretary Diannille Taylor-Williams and Product Standards Manager Melnecia Marshall.
