Swimming Olympian Troy Nisbett Receives Hero’s Welcome

Olympian Troy Nisbett was warmly welcomed home at the Oualie pier on Wednesday, August 7th.

The fifteen-year-old swimmer, who made history as the first representative from the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis to compete in an Olympic event, placed fifth in his qualifying heat. Though he did not advance, his Coach James Weeks pointed out that he had exceeded his personal best time in the fifty-meter distance.

The welcoming party included Director of Sports Jamir Claxton, Minister of Sports Hon. Troy Liburd, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Sports Zahnela Claxton, Headmistress at Charlestown Secondary School Mrs Nichola Parris, as well as family members and friends.

During the gathering, speakers expressed admiration for the young swimmer’s achievement and pledged continued support for his further development and future success for both himself and his country. Ms. Zahnela Claxton then presented him with a commemorative plaque.

In response, Troy Nisbett expressed his honour to represent his country at the Olympics, acknowledging the hours of demanding training and the intense preparation that led to the opportunity.
