The Sweden-Cuban Solidarity Association says the organisation will be shipping two containers with donations collected in Sweden and Denmark to the Spanish- speaking Caribbean island as part of actions to counter the economic blockade imposed by the United States.
According to the president of the association, Zoltan Tiroler, the shipment includes 18 tons of items for healthcare equipment, educational, agricultural, construction purposes and electronics.
The aid, which is expected to arrive in Cuba later this month, is to be funnelled to schools in eastern Santiago de Cuba, Holguin and western Pinar del Rio provinces, as well as to hospitals in eastern Las Tunas.
Tiroler disclosed that the Swedish organisation was planning to donate €55,000 last year to help Cuba face the US blockade, but the money transfer could not be completed, so they decided to buy equipment and supplies to be shipped to Cuba.
