The battle line has been drawn for the SKNFA Premier League Finals: Rams Village Superstars up against defending champions SL Horfords St. Paul’s United. St. Paul’s are looking to three-peat the premier league title as they have done for the FA Cup and President’s Cup. But Village Superstars are looking to stop that run, after going on an unbeaten run to the finals in the Super Six playoff thus far and an excellent streak in round 2 of the premier league. Now both teams will duke for the coveted title and the grand prize of $50,000, starting on Saturday at 8 pm at Warner Park. At a pre-match press conference on Thursday at Warner Park, players and representatives of both teams spoke with confidence ahead of their match. St. Paul’s Assistant Manager Austin Lewis encouraged fans to come out in their numbers to support their teams.
“I would like to ask the fans of both teams to come out and support your club to the fullest. As simple as we may see it, each time we go there we put our lives at risk to entertain you guys. So let us come out and support our teams respectfully and at the end of the day football be the winner,” Lewis said., player Jamal Jeffers and Village’s President MJ Byron and Coach Steven Clarke. St. Paul’s Captain Jamal Jeffers spoke about the level of training his teammates endue as the secret to their success. “We look out for each other like nobody’s business,” he said.
Meanwhile, Village Superstars President MJ Byron said his team is on a mission to stop St. Paul’s from winning a third consecutive Premier League title. “As you know, we are trying to stop the three-peat. Nobody has ever three-peated in the SKNFA (Premier League) yet and it surely won’t happen with Village Superstars in the finals. So that is our stance and our goal coming this weekend,” he said.
Coach Steven Clarke, believes Village Superstars is overdue a championship and now is the time to win. “It’s been quite overdue now since Village last won the championship. And for a caliber club as Village Suprsars, we don’t normally wait that long,” Clarke said. He encouraged fans to come out and bring their “noisemakers” and show their support for their teams. Game two will be on Tuesday and if necessary game three on Friday, September 29 both at 8 p.m. at Warner Park.
