The Board of Directors, management and staff of The Cable, express collective sadness on the passing of one of our founding shareholders, Mr Ivan C Buchanan.
Board Chairman, Mr. Othniel Hyliger, said “The last three years was a tremendous learning experience for me and my Directors as we benefitted from the depth of knowledge that Mr Buchanan willingly shared with us. His decades-long association and contribution to this company will earn him a permanent place in its history. We will surely miss his wise counsel.”
The Cable’s recently-appointed Chief Executive Officer, Patricia Walters, recorded her sympathy thus: “I had the good fortune of meeting Mr. Buchanan over the last four months and was moved by his sharp wit. His offer of support to me in this role was genuine, as it was apparent that he wanted to see the best for the company in which he had invested on so many different levels. Although my interactions with him were brief, I shall always remember the rich history that he imparted about this company which he loved dearly.”
Co-founder William “Bill” Ewing described him as a “giant of a man”. “I was always impressed by his ability to recall in detail many of the initial experiences in the setting up of the island’s first cable tv company. I could not have asked for a better founding shareholder than this wonderful man who provided the requisite background and direction from the business side of things. I will surely miss him and the many moments of reminisces looking back to the formation of The Cable in 1983. May he rest peacefully in the assurance that his contribution was deeply appreciated.”
