Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 15, 2015 (SKNIS): St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris has been hailed for his courageous defence of democratic principles by the opposition leader of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The Honourable Arnhim Eustace made the comments during a visit to the Prime Minister’s Office at Government Headquarters on Wednesday (April 15).
During the meeting, Prime Minister Harris reminisced that in 2014, the Honourable Arnhim Eustace played a pivotal role in hosting a delegation in St. Vincent comprising of himself, the Honourable Shawn Richards and Peoples Labour Party Chairman, Mr Craig Tuckett. The group travelled from St. Kitts and Nevis hoping for an audience with CARICOM leaders during a heads meeting in that country. The purpose of the visit Prime Minister Harris said, was to bring to the fore an almost two year delay in hearing a Motion of No Confidence against the then Government. Prime Minister Harris then expressed, “I am extremely appreciative of the support and the leadership role my friend Arnhim Eustace played in the fight for the preservation of democracy in St. Kitts and Nevis and by extension in the region.”
The leader of the federation also asked the Honourable Arnhim Eustace to extend his appreciation to the executive members of the New Democratic Party for their strong support to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis and to democracy.
Reflecting on the visit, the Honourable Arnhim Eustace said, “I am happy that Team Unity was victorious in the recent general elections despite all the obstacles put in their way by the Douglas administration, and the lack of public support for democracy in St. Kitts and Nevis by CARICOM leaders.” Mr. Eustace continued that, “he was proud to have supported the cause of democracy and see the leader of Team Unity Dr. Timothy Harris be elevated to the high position of Prime Minister. I ask the people of St. Kitts and Nevis to hold faith with this new government and afford them time to deliver. From what I have heard regarding the removal of VAT on food, medicine, etc, I congratulate your Prime Minister for delivering so soon,” he added.
