What do they say about ‘saving the best for last?’
The opinion of the vociferous members of the sizeable crowd that gathered at the Grell Hull-Stevens Netball complex, on the evening of Saturday 22nd October, was that the best match of the entire series, had been left for the last.
It was the grand finals of the inaugural under 21 Basketball Parish league, sponsored by LEFCO equipment Rentals and hosted by the Nevis Amateur Basketball Association (NABA).
The two teams in focus, were: St. Paul’s and St. John’s.
The game was keenly contested throughout, except for the first quarter, when St. John’s got off to a shaky start and lost the first quarter by all of seven points.
After that it was Even-Stevens as both teams ended up winning two quarters each, with just two points separating the scores as a maximum in the other three quarters.
The two outstanding players for the two teams, were the stand out acts on either side of the court. Thabiti Abrams sunk 25 points and had 22 rebounds for the St. Paul’s team, while Kareem Parry had 22 points and 14 rebounds for the St. John’s team.
Their team mates generally supported well and the crowd was kept on edge right through to the final moments in the last quarter and at the final whistle, it was the St. Paul’s team celebrating.
