Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS): The Ministry of Public Infrastructure the St. Kitts Water Services Department, held two successful open days at the La Guerite Water Treatment Farm from March 20-21, 2023.
The open days were part of the week of activities held by the Water Services Department to celebrate World Water Day 2023 under the theme “Accelerating Change”. World Water Day is celebrated on March 22 globally.
Water Engineer at the St. Kitts Water Services Department, Cromwell Williams said, “Monday and Tuesday were an opportunity for the general public but in particular primary and secondary school students to get to learn about how water is distributed to the greater public.”
“Approximately 16 schools attended the open days from across the Federation and we provided them with literature on how they can conserve water at their homes and in their community,” he said.
Minister of Public Infrastructure and Utilities et al, Honourable Konris Maynard, during his World Water Day speech explained that accelerating change is to increase the rate of change and that the Federation should not only be making changes in relation to how water is governed but needs to step up its pace.
Minister Maynard also stated that “The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis is taking our responsibility of providing a reliable supply of water seriously. He added, “This means that we have to change how we have been doing water in the past.”
Other activities for the week include a customer appreciation day today, March 22, a competition among schools, a staff retreat and a raffle.
